Aerial dancer Justine Squire in 'Le Haggis' at Big Burns Supper 2015

BBS is Scotland’s biggest Robert Burns festival and is part of Scotland’s Winter Festivals programme. And is noisier, bawdier and more artistically cutting edge than any other Burns event. And many performances are very much in the spirit of Burns – fun and frolics, drinking and a lust for life.

Above and below left: the ‘dead carrot sketch’ – part of the festival’s free carnival which paraded through Dumfries. An unusual theme for a carnival float, this was inspired by ideas contributed by a school think-tank group. “The Dead Carrot” highlights the dangers to our environment and food
