BBS is Scotland’s biggest Robert Burns festival and is part of Scotland’s Winter Festivals programme. And is noisier, bawdier and more artistically cutting edge than any other Burns event. And many performances are very much in the spirit of Burns – fun and frolics, drinking and a lust for life.

Dance Derby by Company Chordelia – a recreation of the dance marathon competitions for big cash prizes hugely popular in depression era America.

Touring as part of Luminate Festival and showing in Musselburgh’s Brunton Theatre tonight.

“Mr Frackhead” – a 10 foot high pro-fracking puppet monster – visits Edinburgh on his tour of the UK looking for places to frack for shale gas. His visit to the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse was facilitated by Friends of the Earth activists.

Holyrood is amongst many sites of significance across central and southern Scotland that fall within areas on offer in the 14th round of onshore oil and gas licensing. Under UK Government plans, the Queen, or any other house owner, would not be able to stop fracking underneath their homes.

Irish dance group Siamsoir launches Social In The Square – Edinburgh’s first social enterprise festival in the city’s St Andrew Square.

The two-day event – 12th and 13th September – gave visitors to the square a chance to see and buy a wide range of local products and services with over 30 social enterprises taking part. Social in the Square is taking social enterprise business to the next level and encouraging customers to consider their shopping choices and decisions.
